100 Rumours to Hear in or About the Great Rift: Riftspan Reaches, Touchstone and Afawahisa

When asking around in the spaceport bar or anywhere else, Travellers may overhear rumours about events on other worlds. They may be insuring about a different matter entirely and stumble across additional information by accident. This supplement has 100 rumours that Travellers could hear. They can be used as misdirection, background information or as potential adventure hooks. The rumours in this supplement cover the Great Rift, in particular the sectors of Riftspan Reaches, Touchstone and Afawahisa.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Tensions have been rising on Ar'Chrinhdah in the Ekteiu subsector of Touchstone. The world is primarily an Ascondi world, though there are both Aslan ihatei and human settlers there as well. The ihatei have been getting into conflicts with the Ascondi, and they have superior technology. The Ascondi, though, have vastly superior numbers and the ihatei have been avoiding fighting a foe that greatly outnumbers them. However, the frequency of conflicts between ihatei and Ascondi has been increasing; the ihatei are claiming that the Ascondi are starting them and should be dealt with.
  • The Aosola Gulf in the Aosola subsector of Touchstone is home to a higher density of rogue comets and planetoids than the Great Rift itself. An expedition to one of these has claimed to have discovered evidence that many of the comets and planetoids once shared the same system, which was destroyed, including the star, a long time ago. Most are dismissing this claim as a complete fabrication.
  • The Ascondi of Khuiseatasyeh in the Yuyahtao subsector of Afawahisa are seeing their civilisation disappear beneath glaciers as their world has descended into an ice age. There are rumours that the speed of the glaciers' advance has recently sped up a lot, which would mean that the Ascondi civilisation is going to be crushed even more rapidly than thought.
  • The Ascondi of Ultima Thule in the Phobetor system in the Eternal Dark subsector of Touchstone claim that the planet is their homeland, despite there being absolutely no evidence to back this up, nor are the Ascondi willing to provide any other than the bald claim that it is. Some researchers believe that this claim is being used to cover something up, a blatant lie being used to distract from the truth, though no-one seems to have any idea what this truth might be.
  • The Aslan Ehaaiwyairl clan was settled on Uaka in the Ftyoauial subsector of Riftspan Reaches because they lacked the ability to refuse an order to settle elsewhere, and are considered an expendable tripwire in cause of trouble stemming out of Phobetor, even though the Hierate doesn't officially acknowledge that system's existence. The Ehaaiwyairl have reverted to a more traditional Aslan lifestyle, and some of the occasional visitors to the world have been claiming that all Aslan should take up that manner of living again, as it is a more harmonious way than the current way.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
