Castles & Crusades Players Handbook 7th Printing

Castles & Crusades Players Handbook 7th Printing I feel conflicted in writing this, but it has to be said. On the one hand C&C is a great game. It's well thought out and take the essesne of 1st ed D&D and makes it something next step. BUT there comes a time when a facelift is needed for all rpgs. Troll Lord has tried to do this - as cheaply as possible- and it shows. They have "colorized" the book but it's done in such a garish manner that makes it all but impossible to read in some places and in others the choice of color palaette is horrible. Also, and C&C is not the only one guilty of this (looking at you Swords and Wizardry) but the text needs a new face lift also. ...

Hirelings Toolkit It doesn't add much to a GM's workload, and I find it very useful for keeping hirelings simple but still memorable.

Mass Battle Toolkit The description for Mass Battle Toolkit is very accurate as to what it's for, providing tables for generating situations, an easy-to-use system for unit combat, and how players can affect the battle in a quantifiable way.

The Grindhouse: Volume 1
by Connor W.
Publisher: Chaosium

The Grindhouse: Volume 1 Fantastic stuff and a great price. Grindhouse Volume 1 is very no-nonsense, it knows what its doing and it gives it to you straight. The intro (trailers?) section does a tremendous job to map out how everything is put together, which is really appreciated by the busy/lazy Keeper, who just wants to get to putting their players through the grinder. The preamble also does well to show an awareness that everything below can and should be plundered, pillaged, ripped apart and put back together for your own use, which is an absolute foundation to good module writing. The content warning is comprehensive and mature. No spoilers but the scenarios themselves are very nice, with clear inspiration coming from The Things We Leave Behind, and Fear’s Sharp Little Needles, but with a tremendous amount of time, care, and Devil’s details that ‘Fear’s’ scenarios could not supply for obvious reasons. A really nice job has been done to differentiate between two games (in terms of style and mood) that oth...

Inverse World - A Dungeon World Supplement A world that makes your mind sparkle with ideas, even after years or DM-ing and working in the "use your brain to imagine thing" field for a good time. A very solid world to put players one and see what happens.

Genesys Foundry Graphic Design Templates I don't have access to InDesign, Scribus files would be valuable. I also couldn't open the pdf in Scribus. Information on it is valuable, but it would be easier if I had access to files that I could use directly

The Grindhouse: Volume 1
by Matthew A.
Publisher: Chaosium

The Grindhouse: Volume 1 This is a great buy for the price. You get a Grindhouse double feature that is well-written, immersive, and perfectly caputures the grindhouse horror of the 1970s. It is a refreshing take on Call of Cthulhu games as, it seems, players/Loremasters are limited to the 1920s, or maybe the late 1800s via Cthulhu by Gaslight. Having a setting option that is a tad more contemporary is great, especially if you just want to run one-shots for your gaming group. The modules are organized well and are quite helpful for Loremasters who may be new to running Call of Cthulhu games. This product is a steal at this price. Buy it!...

The Lonely Coast 2020 (5e)
by Ruth M.
Publisher: Raging Swan Press
Date Added: 09/19/2021 09:45:40
The Lonely Coast 2020 (5e) Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the pdf of *The Lonely Coast* in return for reviewing it. The Lonely Coast is not somewhere you'd go for your summer holidays. Rather than beaches and resorts, it has windblown cliffs frequented by smugglers and flesh-eating monsters, and seedy villages whose inhabitants are tired, inbred and frequently deranged. It's a nasty place full of people with nasty secrets and nasty habits. If you're finding the standard 5e setting a bit anodyne and can handle something that ventures into the darker corners of (fantasy) human nature, this may be the setting for you. Just make sure you have a frank discussion with your players ahead of time about comfort levels. *The Lonely Coast* is most successful in its realistic evocation of small pre-industrial communities. Each settlement has its own distinct personality; the NPCs are well-drawn and interact in believable ways. Even when things get weird and creepy, they remain compelling because *th...

When the Moon Hangs Low
by Douglas B.
Publisher: Isolation Games

When the Moon Hangs Low Over the years, I've tried many different systems to try to capture the feel of Bloodborne, but this is the one that does it best, in my opinion. It uses a light but versatile d6 pool system that meshes well with the setting and is easily adjusted for anything you want to add or modify. The characters carry heavy burdens, and their curses feel powerful while at the same time driving them closer to damnation. The continuing short story that introduces each chapter does a great job of creating a grim atmosphere of the cost of victory and completing contracts in this dark world. Instead of just copying the world of Bloodborne, the author has done an excellent job of creating their own lore and expanded world. Even so, it's a tight book, with just the right balance between exposition and game mechanics, that I felt was well worth the price tag....
